The One App Story
Flash games are amazing, there's a vital community of people creating amazing games because they love to play. There's millions of people coding away in their free time, and a few established agencies turning them out too. The flash game world, is very different from the traditional game development world, the focus is on light and casual games, which draw you in to play more, procrastination games almost.
The iPhone, and it's contract-less cousin, the iTouch, started out as mp3 players and then a mobile phone. But over time they've become an amazing gaming platform. Casual when you have a moment type games. Exactly the same kind of games which the flash community's been creating for years. Everybody wondered when would flash come to the iPhone. We waited and waited, and there was no flash. Eventually Adobe figured out a way to run flash on the iPhone, not a generic flash engine to run any swf, but a way to compile the swf's in to iPhone apps. Adobe figured out a way to get flash on to the iPhone, one app at a time.
This is where we come in the story. The iPhone is different, it's touch, it's got location, it's got an accelerometer, the screen isn't the same size or shape as flash games, and rotates. What's more, the process of creating and releasing games to the iphone is quite different from that of flash games on the web. We created One App At A Time, as a company to help shepherd flash games on to the iPhone.
Who's doing this?
